Taft Marching Toreadors dates back to 1960, when Taft Charter High School first opened its doors. There has always been a strong connection between students in band, color guard, drumline, and our band director and coaches. Taft’s marching band performs at all home football games and competes in various field competitions in Southern California.
Our band prides itself on being competitive and musically proficient as well as a supportive environment, putting on a fantastic show for our wonderful audience, and achieving goals through teamwork and dedication. And most importantly, band is about creating lifelong friendships that last well beyond the four years of high school. Our marching band has earned numerous awards over the years, including LAUSD and SCSBOA Marching Band Championships, and our musicians have been awarded Jazz Band and Best Soloist awards from the Pasadena Jazz Festival and the Beyond the Bell Jazz and Blues Festival. Many of our student musicians also participate in the LAUSD All City Honor Marching Band and LAUSD All City Jazz Band.
Marching Band takes place during fall semester 0 and first periods. Being in Marching Band fulfills students’ LAUSD visual and performing arts requirements, along with a half-semester of PE credits per year.
